CONFIRMED. Mistral AI confirmed on September 23 the acquisition of Pimento, a French startup building an automated ad generation platform for brands. It is Mistral's third acquisition in 2026, arriving just months after the French company closed a billion euro round that put it among Europe's most valuable AI labs.

Pimento started in October 2022 as a moodboarding tool for creative teams, founded by Florent Facq and Tomás Yany, a former AI researcher at Apple. Over time the product grew into a full platform for automated ad creative generation, now used by more than 180 brands.

Neither side has officially confirmed the deal's value. L'Informé estimated it around 3.8 million euros, while Sifted, citing documents it reviewed, put it closer to 12.7 million euros in cash and shares. Mistral only confirmed to AFP that the price was "a few million euros," without further detail.

Mistral's stated interest is Pimento's team, expected to join the French company's engineering and product groups to work on Vibe, the conversational assistant previously known as Le Chat. The plan is to use Pimento's experience in automated creative generation to strengthen content features inside Vibe. What happens to the advertising business already serving those 180 brands remains unclear.

This is Mistral's third acquisition this year, and the pattern matters more than the value of any single deal: the company is moving down from the model layer into the actual workflow layer companies use every day, buying finished products instead of building everything in house.

For agencies and marketing teams already using automated ad generation tools, the acquisition carries a practical warning. A startup like Pimento can get absorbed by a bigger lab at any moment, and its product roadmap changes owners overnight. Before tying an entire workflow to a niche tool, it is worth exporting data regularly, documenting the equivalent manual process, and avoiding full dependence on a single platform, especially one still small enough to be bought for its team rather than its product.
